Overview

SpaceX is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for their User Products team to design and develop reliable electronics for satellite communication. You'll work with technologies like Altium Designer and AutoCAD in Hawthorne, CA.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in electrical engineering with experience in designing and developing complex electronic systems — you understand the intricacies of hardware design and have a proven track record of delivering high-reliability products. Your expertise includes schematic capture and PCB layout, and you are proficient in tools like Altium Designer and AutoCAD. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with mechanical engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware components. You possess strong analytical skills and are adept at troubleshooting and debugging complex systems, ensuring that all designs meet stringent performance and reliability standards. You are passionate about technology and eager to contribute to innovative projects that push the boundaries of what is possible in aerospace and communications. You are committed to continuous learning and improvement, always seeking to enhance your skills and knowledge in the field.

What you'll do

In this role, you will take ownership of the conceptualization, design, qualification, and integration of custom hardware for SpaceX's Starshield program. You will design and develop highly reliable electronics that communicate with satellites, ensuring that government end users have access to high-speed, low-latency data. Your responsibilities will include driving system trades, capturing requirements, selecting components, and conducting thorough analysis to validate your designs. You will engage in schematic capture and PCB layout, prototyping, hardware bring-up, and debugging, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of quality. You will document your designs and processes meticulously, contributing to the manufacturing and testing phases of the product lifecycle. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with engineers from adjacent disciplines to realize high-performance products that operate in the toughest environments around the world. You will also participate in cross-functional teams to drive innovation and improve existing products, contributing to SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars.

What we offer

At SpaceX, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology and exploring new frontiers. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional development. You will work in a dynamic and innovative environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on the future of space exploration and communications. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — we value diverse perspectives and are committed to building a team that reflects the world we live in.
