SFMOMA is seeking an Artist Material Collection Intern to assist in the preservation and documentation of modern and contemporary artworks. This role is ideal for current students or recent graduates with an interest in art conservation.
You are a current student or a recent graduate with a passion for art and a desire to learn about conservation practices. You possess the ability to safely handle delicate artworks and have an aptitude for closely examining and describing materials. You are detail-oriented and can work independently on tasks such as database entry while also collaborating effectively with staff to determine appropriate housing for items in the Artist Material Collection.
As an Artist Material Collection Intern at SFMOMA, you will focus on developing the Artist Material Collection, which involves working closely with the Elise S. Haas Conservation Department. You will assist in the preservation and conservation of modern and contemporary artworks, contributing to the research and display of these pieces. Your role will include examining artworks, documenting materials, and ensuring that items are stored appropriately to maintain their integrity. You will also have the opportunity to engage with various staff members, gaining insights into the conservation process and the museum's operations.
This internship provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of art conservation at one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the United States.
