Google is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for their Data Center team in Fort Wayne. You'll be responsible for operating and maintaining sophisticated mechanical and HVAC systems. This role requires 9+ years of experience in a related technical field.
You have at least 9 years of experience in Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC, or controls within an industrial or commercial environment — your background includes working in data centers, hospitals, or power plants. You possess an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience, and ideally, you hold a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a related field. Your expertise includes high voltage electrical substations and mission-critical facility maintenance, allowing you to effectively communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades on data center systems.
You are skilled in operating, monitoring, and supporting physical facility conditions in data centers — your role involves ensuring the heating and cooling of air and water, managing power supply, generators, UPS systems, and electrical distribution. You regularly inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems, including piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical components. Your ability to read blueprints and schematics is essential as you conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.
You are a master of exceptional practices, developing creative approaches to reduce operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency — your strategies focus on minimizing environmental impact and enhancing operational effectiveness. You are proactive in driving efforts to ensure compliance with facility maintenance standards and programs globally, showcasing your strength in policy improvement.
