Amazon is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to join the Modeling and Optimization team. You'll focus on developing solutions for last-mile delivery optimization using advanced algorithms and data science techniques. This role requires strong analytical skills and experience in optimization problems.
You have 3+ years of experience in building machine learning models or developing optimization algorithms — your analytical and algorithmic skills are complemented by practical experience in solving large-scale optimization problems. You possess a strong background in combinatorial optimization, algorithms, and data structures, particularly as they apply to vehicle routing and related challenges. Familiarity with data science and machine learning techniques is a plus, as you will be working closely with software development engineers to implement state-of-the-art solutions.
You are motivated and detail-oriented, with a proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate optimization models that enhance operational efficiency. Your experience includes identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve processes within transportation networks and fulfillment operations. You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to contribute to the planning and analysis that drives efficiency in global fulfillment operations.
Experience with network planning and modeling is highly desirable, as is a background in algorithm engineering. You are comfortable creating metrics to quantify improvements in fulfillment costs, including transportation and labor costs, resulting from the application of optimization models and tools. Your ability to communicate complex concepts clearly will be essential in this role, as you will work with cross-functional teams to implement your solutions.
In this role, you will focus on developing and improving Amazon's last-mile delivery experience through algorithmic and analytical work. You will design and implement optimization models that enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our transportation network. Your work will involve evaluating opportunities to optimize inventory placement, transportation operations, and scheduling, as well as improving fulfillment center processes.
You will play a key role in the network planning and modeling efforts that drive operational improvements. This includes analyzing current processes and identifying areas for enhancement, as well as collaborating with software engineers to ensure the successful implementation of your models. You will also be responsible for creating metrics that quantify the impact of your optimization efforts on fulfillment costs, helping to drive data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Amazon offers a competitive compensation package, including equity, sign-on payments, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits. You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where your contributions will directly impact the efficiency of our global fulfillment operations. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique skills and perspectives are valuable to us.
