SpaceX is seeking a Tooling Maintenance Technician - Level 4/5 to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on custom tooling. You'll work with advanced structures and precision tools, requiring skills in AutoCAD and Linux.
You have extensive experience in tooling maintenance, particularly in high-precision environments. Your background includes performing preventative and corrective maintenance on custom tooling, ensuring that all equipment operates at peak efficiency. You are skilled in inspecting and analyzing precision tools and machines according to engineering requirements, and you have a strong understanding of advanced structures such as friction stir welding machines and metallic layup tools. You are adept at planning work sequences based on tool design drawings, and you possess the ability to fabricate and assemble a variety of jigs, fixtures, and tooling components with exacting tolerances.
You are familiar with developing and designing holding devices and jig details, and you can suggest design changes that enhance manufacturability and efficiency. Your technical skills include setting up and operating optical instruments for alignment checks, and you are comfortable working with complex geometries and dimensional features. You are a proactive problem solver who communicates effectively with engineering teams to ensure that tooling meets operational needs.
Experience with CAD software, particularly AutoCAD, is a plus. Familiarity with Linux systems can enhance your ability to work with advanced manufacturing technologies. A background in aerospace or similar high-tech industries will be beneficial.
In this role, you will be responsible for performing both preventative and corrective maintenance on all custom SpaceX tooling. You will inspect and create detailed analyses of precision tools and machines, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications. Your work will involve maintaining and repairing advanced structures, including custom friction stir welding machines and high-capacity test stands. You will plan and execute work based on tool design drawings, determining the most effective methods and sequences of operations.
You will lay out, fabricate, and assemble a variety of jigs, fixtures, and tooling components, ensuring that all work meets exacting tolerances. Your role will also include developing and designing holding devices and jig details, as well as suggesting design changes to improve manufacturability and process efficiency. You will make determinations regarding the fabrication and design of detail parts, submitting your proposals for approval to the appropriate personnel.
Additionally, you will set up and operate optical instruments to check alignment and fit, ensuring that all tooling meets the required specifications. Your contributions will be critical to the success of SpaceX's mission to develop technologies for human life on Mars.
