Job Description

Alexa+ is our next-generation, AI-powered digital assistant. Alexa+ is designed to be more conversational, intelligent, and personalized than previous versions—helping customers get things done with ease. Whether it’s entertainment, learning, organization, summarization, or open-ended conversation, Alexa+ can assist. Alexa+ also manages and protects your smart home, makes reservations, discovers new content, and helps you shop online.

We’re looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead a foundational platform team within Alexa+. This team owns the core infrastructure and shared components that power the end-to-end Alexa+ experience across all endpoints, including mobile, web, and partner integrations. As a cross-functional enabler, the team is responsible for delivering robust, scalable platform capabilities that accelerate innovation across the entire Alexa+ org.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical depth, a bias for action, and a track record of working across organizational boundaries to deliver customer-facing outcomes. You will manage a team of high-performing engineers and collaborate closely with science, UX, and product partners to define and deliver platform capabilities that raise the bar for quality, performance, and velocity.


Key job responsibilities
You will be responsible for leading a development team that builds and maintains the foundational building blocks of the Alexa+ platform. These components are critical to enabling scalable, intelligent experiences across Alexa+ endpoints. You will work closely with product, science, design, and partner engineering teams across Alexa to drive core capabilities that power the next generation of AI interaction.

You will have significant influence over our technical and product direction—owning the definition of platform features, setting architectural vision, and instituting engineering best practices that enable teams to move fast without sacrificing quality.

An important aspect of the role is developing and scaling high-performing talent. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your team and mentor engineers across org boundaries, fostering a culture of technical excellence and operational rigor as we deliver on a unified Alexa+ experience across all endpoints.


About the team
You will work in a responsive, flexible and collaborative peer environment. You will lead an agile development team following innovative best practices in software development. To build our experiences, you will interact with product teams to gather requirements, support feasibility analysis and provide technical solutions required in defining our next generation products. - 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience building customer and developer facing products and services- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience managing a team of high calibre Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
