SpaceX is seeking a Lead Welding Inspector Specialist to oversee welding inspections and ensure quality standards are met. This role requires a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with extensive experience in weld inspection and fabrication.
You are a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with over 3 years of experience in weld inspection and more than 5 years in structural or pipe fabrication and welding. You have a keen eye for detail and are capable of interpreting codes and specifications accurately. Your experience includes overseeing teams of certified welding inspectors and coordinating inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards. You are comfortable using computers to compile and submit data regarding weld quality and can recommend and approve necessary repairs. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are dedicated to maintaining high-quality standards in welding processes.
In this role, you will oversee contractor and internal certified welding inspectors who perform various types of inspections, including visual testing (VT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), and liquid penetrant testing (PT). You will coordinate volumetric inspections with the Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) team at Starbase and perform both internal and external inspections to determine if weldments meet acceptance criteria. You will interpret codes and specifications in accordance with drawing requirements and compile data on acceptance or rejection of weld quality. Additionally, you will select or develop welding procedure specifications (WPS) and complete welder qualification records. Your responsibilities will also include applying industry standards or internal requirements to inspections as directed and performing other related duties to ensure an efficient work environment.
