Job Description

Join the Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) organization where we capitalize on our size, scale, and inventive culture to build a more resilient and sustainable company. WWS manages our social and environmental impacts globally, driving solutions that enable our customers, businesses, and the world around us to become more sustainable.

Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge, our commitment to reach net-zero carbon across our global operations by 2040. As part of the Worldwide Environment team, Earth is our first customer.

Amazon's Worldwide Carbon team is dedicated to working across the company with our business units to make operational changes to accelerate solutions and decarbonize our businesses in service of The Climate Pledge.

We are seeking an innovative and highly-analytical leader to join the team. You'll be accountable for developing and implementing science-based decarbonization pathways across Amazon's diverse business operations and global value chain. This position engages with many stakeholders and requires strong collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and senior leaders. The role demands deep expertise in carbon accounting and climate science, particularly in developing sectoral decarbonization approaches, and the ability to think big about how we can make a significant impact on global emissions reduction.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in climate science and carbon accounting standards, and is an experienced analyst and relationship builder.

You have a track record of exceptional performance and enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where managing multiple projects and priorities is the norm. You have excellent judgment, high standards, and the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly. You are motivated by complexity and dive deep, but drive simple, innovative solutions that balance corporate responsibilities with meaningful climate impact.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead the development and validation of decarbonization plans aligned with climate science and Amazon's Climate Pledge commitment.
- Partner with key internal stakeholders to translate emission reduction pathways into actionable sectoral decarbonization milestones.
- Collaborate closely with the GHG Standards and Carbon Performance Lead to implement science-aligned pathways.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to senior leadership on climate science and decarbonization pathways.
- Partner with business teams to integrate decarbonization goals into operational planning and decision-making

We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why flexible work hours and arrangements are part of our culture. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there’s nothing we can’t achieve.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, corporate sustainability, or related field
- 5+ yrs. of experience developing and implementing emission reduction strategies

- Proven track record of building trust with business partners and implementing new performance metrics
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data and topics into actionable insights and programs
- Understanding of climate science fundamentals and ability to translate IPCC scenarios into business contexts
- Experience evaluating clean technologies across power generation, transportation, buildings, cloud computing, and agriculture.
