Klaviyo is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead enterprise scalability initiatives. You'll focus on performance, reliability, and architectural changes while collaborating across teams. This role requires expertise in Java and cloud technologies.
You have over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on scalability and performance optimization. Your background includes leading architectural changes and driving system improvements across multiple teams. You possess deep technical expertise in Java and cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and have hands-on experience with containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes. You are skilled at defining metrics for success and aligning teams to achieve service level objectives (SLOs). Your communication skills allow you to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on business impacts and customer outcomes.
Experience with multi-region architectures and high-volume data migrations is a plus. Familiarity with performance benchmarking and profiling tools will help you excel in this role. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality results.
As the Principal Engineer at Klaviyo, you will define enterprise scalability fitness functions, focusing on latency, throughput, and error rates. You will design and implement sharding and partitioning strategies, as well as caching and back-pressure mechanisms to enhance system performance.
