Overview

SpaceX is hiring an RF/Microwave Engineer to develop phased array antennas and modem hardware for the Direct to Cell system. You'll collaborate with various engineering teams and require skills in electrical engineering and hardware development.

Who you are

You have a strong background in RF and microwave engineering, with experience in developing high-reliability electronics for satellites and spacecraft. Your expertise includes system trades, requirements capture, and component selection, ensuring that you can drive complex electrical designs from concept to production. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with mechanical, thermal, software, and test engineering teams to deliver integrated hardware solutions. You are hands-on and enjoy supporting hardware through production and satellite integration, demonstrating your commitment to quality and performance.

You possess a deep understanding of phased array antennas and modem hardware, which is crucial for the Direct to Cell project. Your analytical skills allow you to challenge assumptions and question requirements effectively, ensuring that the designs meet the high standards expected at SpaceX. You are comfortable with debugging and troubleshooting complex systems, and you have a passion for innovation in aerospace technology.

Desirable

Experience with satellite communication systems or similar technologies would be a plus. Familiarity with PCB layout and schematic capture tools is also desirable, as is knowledge of manufacturing processes for high-reliability electronics. You are eager to learn and adapt to new challenges, contributing to the mission of enabling human life on Mars.

What you'll do

As an RF/Microwave Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for developing all aspects of the phased array antennas and modem hardware for the Direct to Cell system. You will engage in rapid development of high-reliability RF/microwave electronics, driving system trades and capturing requirements to ensure the success of the project. Your role will involve component selection, analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, and hardware bring-up, ensuring that all designs meet performance and reliability standards.

You will collaborate with engineers from various disciplines, including electrical, silicon, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams, to steer the project from initial concept development to full-scale production. Your hands-on approach will support hardware through production, satellite integration, and flight, allowing you to see your designs come to life in real-world applications. You will also be responsible for documentation and testing, ensuring that all aspects of the hardware are thoroughly vetted before deployment.
