Waymo is hiring a Staff Data Scientist to develop novel metrics and sampling techniques for evaluating large models in autonomous driving. You have a strong quantitative background with experience in data analysis and machine learning — you've developed metrics and sampling techniques that drive insights and improve model performance. Your expertise in Python allows you to create robust evaluation frameworks for complex AI systems. You understand the intricacies of evaluating large models, especially in safety-critical environments like autonomous driving. You thrive in collaborative settings, working closely with engineers and researchers to propose innovative solutions to challenging problems. In this role, you will develop novel metrics and sampling techniques to measure the driving trajectories generated by machine learning models. You will employ creative simulation strategies to assess the driving performance of generative AI models, identifying potential edge cases that could impact safety and performance. Your work will directly inform the evaluation processes for the Waymo Driver, ensuring that our AI systems are reliable and effective in real-world conditions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to share insights and drive improvements in our evaluation methodologies. Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $238,000 to $302,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
