Overview

Google is seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer to develop production-level firmware for laptops and tablets. You'll work with C/C++ and Linux environments, focusing on embedded systems. This role requires 5+ years of experience in software development.

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with 5 years of experience in software development using C/C++. Your background includes 3 years of experience in testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and at least 1 year of experience with software design and architecture. You possess 3 years of experience in embedded systems, such as firmware, Linux kernel, or device drivers. You also have a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms, having worked on consumer electronics and grasping the entire product life cycle from design to manufacturing and customer support.

You are familiar with developing in a Linux, Android, or ChromeOS environment, and have experience with open-source projects like coreboot or fastboot. Your technical expertise is complemented by a Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, making you a strong candidate for this role. You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to bring fresh ideas to the table, contributing to innovative technologies that impact billions of users.

What you'll do

As a Senior Embedded Engineer at Google, you will evaluate and improve firmware and processes for scalability and maintainability. You will collaborate with a global team of software and hardware engineers on new technology proposals and process improvements. Your role will involve maintaining quality standards by increasing unit and integration test coverage, ensuring that the firmware you design, develop, and launch meets production-level requirements for laptops and tablets. You will work on critical projects that align with Google's needs, with opportunities to switch teams and projects as the business evolves.
