Job Description

Are you a hands-on technical leader capable of leading an engineering team in a fast moving business? Amazon's AGL Tech team is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to join our team. You will have the opportunity to build a new business from scratch and shape the direction of the business. In this role you will build and lead a team of high performing software engineers. You will be responsible for scoping and delivering large projects end to end, including collection of business and systems requirements from internal and external customers, writing technical specifications, driving completion of tasks from design to release, managing risks, and communicating status and progress of projects to stakeholders. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts across multiple Amazon teams to develop optimal solutions. The right candidate will possess a strong technical leadership background and will have demonstrated experience leading large software projects.

This role requires an individual with experience leading large software projects, deep technical expertise, hands-on project management skills, and excellent leadership skills.

who are we
Amazon’s Global Logistics Technology team is chartered with building solutions for international movement of shipments which can originate from any place on earth, cross the international border and be delivered in a different part of planet. There are variety of ways in which we can import shipments from vendors/sellers to our warehouses and export package from one country to another through several intermediate locations to deliver it to our international customer. There are millions of such packages, each with different attributes, delivery requirements and international commerce and customs constraints. What results is a complex graph of source, intermediate and destination nodes with their arcs crossing international borders and associated with different costs and transit times. Accounting for all these constraints and maximizing the number of shipments shipped, while minimizing cost, providing a variety of customer delivery options and maximizing delivery performance is our primary focus.

Key job responsibilities
1. Develop technical roadmap, strategy, and facilitate the technical architecture between multiple complex systems.
2. Create buy-in for the technical vision and strategy both internally and with key external partners
3. Manage prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, schedule, performance and cost
4. Proactively identify and resolve technical risks and issues that may impair the team's ability to meet strategic or technical goals.
5. Collaborate with cross-functional team to deliver the best experience for our customers
6. Support the professional growth and career development of your team- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
