SpaceX is hiring a Senior Propulsion Engineer specializing in Merlin Turbomachinery to oversee the design, development, and production support of turbopumps. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability of the Merlin engine.
You have a strong technical background in turbomachinery, with at least 5 years of experience in engineering roles focused on propulsion systems. Your expertise allows you to effectively collaborate with a diverse team of specialists, ensuring that all components meet the required standards for reliability and performance. You are detail-oriented and have a proven track record of managing complex engineering projects from conception through to production.
You possess a deep understanding of mechanical analysis and are skilled in reviewing and updating designs to meet life and reliability targets. Your ability to work with rotordynamics and bearings is complemented by your experience in defining and implementing mechanical elements such as seals. You are adept at using engineering software to create accurate models and drawings, ensuring that all designs are manufacturable with the available processes.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about contributing to groundbreaking projects that push the boundaries of space exploration. Your strong communication skills enable you to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering collaboration across teams.
Experience with rocket propulsion systems or aerospace engineering is a plus. Familiarity with the design and testing of turbopumps will set you apart as a candidate. As a Senior Propulsion Engineer, you will take ownership of the Merlin Turbopump design and development process. You will support the build, test, and flight operations of the Merlin Turbopumps used in SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles. Your responsibilities will include conducting detailed mechanical analyses on turbopump components and systems, ensuring they meet stringent reliability and performance standards.
You will collaborate closely with other engineers to define and implement rotordynamics and bearing systems, ensuring that all mechanical elements are accurately designed and integrated. Your role will also involve working with designers to create precise models and drawings for turbopump assemblies, confirming that these designs can be manufactured effectively.
In addition to your design responsibilities, you will participate in the qualification and production support of the turbopumps, ensuring that they are ready for flight missions. You will engage with the Merlin development, refurb, and flight operations teams to provide technical support and insights that enhance the reliability of the Merlin engine.
