Overview

Datadog is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for their Universal Services Monitoring team to design and implement a zero-instrumentation observability solution. You'll work with technologies like Go, Kafka, and Redis, and have 6+ years of experience in distributed systems.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 6+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems — you've designed and implemented scalable solutions that handle billions of events per second, ensuring high availability and performance in production environments. Your strong systems-level thinking allows you to tackle complex challenges, such as decoding traffic across multiple protocols and maintaining high-fidelity metrics.

You possess significant backend programming experience in languages like Go and Java — you've built fault-tolerant, horizontally scalable solutions running in multi-tenant environments. Your expertise in data pipelines enables you to ingest, store, analyze, and query vast amounts of data in real-time, making you a valuable asset to any engineering team.

You thrive in collaborative environments — you enjoy leading design and implementation efforts while contributing to roadmap planning. Your ability to communicate effectively across teams ensures that solutions remain robust and frictionless for users. You value office culture and understand the importance of building relationships and fostering creativity within your team.

Desirable

Experience with open-source components and technologies such as Kafka, Redis, and Cassandra is a plus — familiarity with observability solutions and monitoring tools will help you excel in this role. You are eager to grow with the company and take ownership of meaningful parts of the service, making a significant impact on the product and its users.

What you'll do

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Universal Service Monitoring team, you will design, implement, and run in production the foundational platforms powering our observability solution. You will build a zero-instrumentation observability solution that automatically discovers services on every host, ensuring seamless integration and user experience.

You will be responsible for creating data pipelines that ingest, store, analyze, and query billions of events per second — your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of our services. You will tackle ambitious technical challenges, such as decoding traffic across multiple protocols and ensuring high-fidelity metrics in complex, real-world environments.

You will lead design and implementation efforts, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure our solutions remain robust, scalable, and user-friendly. Your contributions will help shape the future of our observability platform, making it easier for users to monitor and manage their services effectively.

What we offer

At Datadog, we operate as a hybrid workplace, allowing you to create a work-life harmony that best fits you. We value our office culture and the relationships it builds, fostering an environment where creativity and collaboration thrive. You will have the opportunity to work with a high-impact team, tackling ambitious technical challenges and contributing to the growth of our observability solutions.

We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique perspective and skills could be the perfect fit for our team. Join us at Datadog and be part of a company that values innovation and excellence in software engineering.
