SpaceX is seeking a Mate, Recovery (Marine Operations) to lead safe operations and crew management of recovery vessels. This role requires 3+ years of experience in an offshore mate/master role and a valid USCG license.
You have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and at least 3 years of experience in an offshore mate or master role. You possess a US Coast Guard medical certificate (STCW) and a current USCG license, demonstrating your ability to pass relevant examinations and federal facility background checks. Your experience has equipped you with the skills necessary to manage vessel operations safely and effectively.

In this role, you will lead all aspects of the safe operation, navigation, and crew management of SpaceX’s recovery vessels, Bob & Doug, operating in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean. You will assist in voyage planning and day-to-day operations, ensuring the safety of all personnel onboard during recovery missions. Your responsibilities will include maintaining administrative reports and logbooks in accordance with regulations and standards, as well as ensuring ship-wide compliance with appropriate programs.
You will collaborate with shoreside leadership to plan vessel maintenance periods and large-scale projects, contributing to the overall mission operations. Continuous development of crew skillsets and training proficiencies will be a key focus, as you work to enhance the capabilities of your team. You will also play a vital role in cultivating a vessel crew culture that aligns with SpaceX’s mission and the initiatives of the Marine Operations department.
