Software Engineer II

Who you are

You have 5+ years of technical software engineering experience, particularly in data engineering, where you've successfully designed and implemented large-scale systems. Your expertise spans programming and scripting languages such as Python and SQL, as well as Java or Scala. You are well-versed in big data frameworks like Spark and Flink, and you have a solid understanding of data modeling and writing ETLs. Your strong SQL skills enable you to manipulate and analyze data effectively, and you have hands-on experience with the Hadoop tech stack, including HDFS, Hive, Oozie, and Airflow.

You are a great communicator and a standout teammate, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into actionable data engineering roadmaps. You thrive in environments where you can drive projects from inception to production, ensuring that data solutions meet business needs. Your ability to troubleshoot and tune performance issues makes you a valuable asset to any engineering team.

Desirable

Experience with performance troubleshooting and tuning is a plus, as is familiarity with data warehousing and data modeling concepts. You are comfortable working with various data technologies and are eager to learn and adapt to new tools and methodologies as needed.

What you'll do

In this role, you will collaborate with engineering, product, and analyst teams across various tech sites to accomplish OKRs that propel Uber forward. You will enrich data layers to support the next generation of products resulting from Uber's bold initiatives. Your primary responsibility will be to design and build data pipelines that schedule and orchestrate tasks such as extracting, cleansing, transforming, enriching, and loading data according to business requirements. You will also be involved in designing end-to-end data solutions and architecture, ensuring that they are scalable and efficient.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into a comprehensive data engineering roadmap. Your role will require you to stay updated with the latest technologies and best practices in data engineering, allowing you to contribute effectively to the team's success. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and share your knowledge with the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
