Waymo is seeking a Software Engineer for their Perception team to develop technology that powers the Waymo Driver. You'll work with Java, Python, and C++ to enhance autonomous driving capabilities. This role requires experience in machine learning and computer vision.
You have a strong background in software engineering with a focus on perception systems — your experience includes developing algorithms that enable machines to interpret and understand their environment. You are proficient in programming languages such as Java, Python, and C++, and you have a solid understanding of machine learning principles and computer vision techniques. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with hardware teams to define sensor requirements and provide critical feedback. You are detail-oriented and have a passion for building robust test automation frameworks that ensure the reliability of perception systems. You are eager to tackle real-world challenges and contribute to the advancement of autonomous driving technology.
Experience with large datasets and data processing techniques is a plus — you understand how to leverage data to improve model performance. Familiarity with simulation environments and autonomous vehicle systems will set you apart. You are comfortable working in a hybrid role, balancing hands-on coding with strategic collaboration across teams.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing perception algorithms that allow the Waymo Driver to navigate complex environments safely. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate perception capabilities into the self-driving system, ensuring that the technology meets the highest standards of safety and reliability. You will also work on building and maintaining test automation frameworks that validate the performance of perception systems under various conditions. Your contributions will directly impact the effectiveness of the Waymo Driver, enhancing its ability to make informed decisions in real-time. You will participate in research initiatives aimed at solving real-world problems, leveraging millions of miles of driving data to refine and improve perception models. Waymo provides a competitive salary range of $170,000—$216,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
