Esri is hiring a Cartographer to create user-centered map designs and visualizations. You'll work with ArcGIS and collaborate with various teams to produce engaging geographic experiences. This role requires expertise in cartographic data visualization.

Who you are

You have a strong background in cartographic data visualization, with experience in creating user-centered map designs that inspire and influence. Your ability to blend geographical expertise with creativity allows you to produce stunning maps that tell engaging stories about our planet. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with design teammates, strategists, writers, researchers, and business stakeholders to achieve high-quality cartography at enterprise scale.

You are familiar with technical workflows from story conception to data management and production, and you have a solid understanding of foundational cartographic principles. Your experience includes contributing to style guides and technical documentation that enhance the clarity and effectiveness of map design.

You possess a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling through maps, whether they are static, animated, or interactive. Your knowledge of various topics, including urban systems, demographics, and Earth observations, enables you to create maps that resonate with diverse audiences.

Desirable

Experience with usability studies and user experience research is a plus, as you understand the importance of measuring success and gaining insights into interactive expectations. Familiarity with web technologies and interactive design will further enhance your contributions to the team.

What you'll do

In this role, you will collaborate with a dedicated mapping visualization team to produce high-quality maps for Esri.com and marketing campaigns. You will contribute to mapmaking workflows and production systems that enable the creation of engaging geographic experiences. Your responsibilities will include storyboarding, designing, prototyping, and building interactive web experiences that showcase Esri software in action.

You will help define the foundational cartographic principles behind our map design style guide, ensuring that all maps adhere to high standards of quality and clarity. Your work will involve conducting usability studies in partnership with UX researchers to gain insights into user interactions and expectations, allowing you to refine and improve the map design process.

You will play a central role in executing technical workflows, from data discovery and management to production at scale. Your ability to blend creativity with technical expertise will be essential in producing maps that not only inform but also engage users across various media touchpoints.
