Overview

Reddit is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Site Defense team to design and operate critical infrastructure that protects against DDoS attacks and other network-level threats. You'll work with distributed systems, networking, and security to ensure Reddit's availability and performance.

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in building and operating high-scale systems that address security challenges. Your background includes a strong understanding of distributed systems and networking, which allows you to effectively design defenses against DDoS attacks and automated abuse. You are well-versed in security practices and have experience with applied machine learning techniques that enhance system defenses. You enjoy mentoring junior engineers, helping them grow in their careers while fostering a collaborative team environment.

You have a passion for protecting systems at internet scale, and you understand the complexities involved in safeguarding user experiences while maintaining performance. Your analytical skills enable you to develop and evolve ingress-level defenses across various infrastructure layers, ensuring that Reddit remains a safe platform for its users. You thrive in a dynamic environment where you can partner closely with cross-functional teams, balancing security needs with user experience.

Desirable

Experience with real-time traffic analysis and mitigation strategies is a plus. Familiarity with CDN technologies and edge computing will help you excel in this role. You are also encouraged to bring any additional skills in programming languages or frameworks that can contribute to the team's success.

What you'll do

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Site Defense team, you will design, build, and operate systems that protect Reddit from various network-level threats. Your role will involve analyzing and developing ingress-level defenses that span across CDN, edge, and internal infrastructure layers. You will work closely with the Infrastructure and Security teams to implement solutions that balance security, performance, and user experience. Your contributions will directly impact the availability and trustworthiness of Reddit's platform.

You will be responsible for building systems that detect, score, and mitigate malicious traffic in real-time, ensuring that Reddit can handle millions of requests without compromising user experience. You will also mentor junior engineers, guiding them in their professional growth and helping them navigate complex technical challenges. Your expertise will be crucial in shaping the team's approach to security and performance, and you will have the opportunity to influence the technical direction of the Site Defense initiatives.
