Dropbox is hiring a Staff Backend Product Software Engineer to architect and deliver core systems for their Multi-Product Experience team. You'll work with technologies like Java and distributed systems to enhance customer interactions across products. This role requires significant experience in backend engineering and system design.
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated complex distributed systems challenges. Your deep expertise in Java allows you to create high-performance applications that handle millions of requests, and you have strong opinions on service architecture and testing strategies. You thrive in ambiguous problem spaces and enjoy system-level design, particularly in building scalable, user-facing commerce and identity systems. Your experience includes designing developer platforms or reusable frameworks that support multi-product environments, and you have a track record of setting technical direction across teams while driving the adoption of new system patterns.
Experience with subscription lifecycle management and entitlements is a plus, as is familiarity with cross-product admin workflows. You are comfortable collaborating with Product, Design, and Engineering Managers to shape long-term architecture while delivering near-term improvements that increase conversion and reduce friction.
As a Staff Backend Product Software Engineer at Dropbox, you will architect and deliver high-impact systems that power multi-product checkout, trials, entitlements, and subscription lifecycle management. You will define and drive the technical strategy for the Core Switchboard and MPE platform components, ensuring that they align with cross-product roadmaps and integration efforts. Your role will involve partnering closely with various teams to create cohesive customer journeys and enhance the overall user experience. You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable systems that support the growing needs of Dropbox's product suite, focusing on improving customer interactions and driving expansion opportunities.
Dropbox provides a collaborative work environment where you can take deep technical ownership of your projects. You will have the opportunity to work with senior technical leaders across the organization, gaining visibility and influence in shaping the future of how Dropbox's products work together. The compensation for this role ranges from CAD 204,900 to CAD 277,200, reflecting the value of your expertise and contributions to the team. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
