Database Reliability Engineer

Who you are

You have extensive experience as a Database Reliability Engineer, with a strong focus on Oracle and PostgreSQL technologies. Your hands-on experience allows you to manage database health, uptime, and performance effectively. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess a strong desire to learn and adapt. Your technical knowledge is complemented by your ability to troubleshoot complex issues in server and storage infrastructure. You are a self-motivated individual who takes ownership of your work and is eager to contribute to a team of database administrators and engineers.

You are proficient in Linux and have a solid understanding of scripting languages such as Python and Bash. Your experience includes developing automation scripts to streamline routine tasks, ensuring efficiency and reliability in database operations. You are familiar with database monitoring tools and can engineer comprehensive backup and restore solutions. Your ability to implement and test disaster recovery strategies is crucial in maintaining the integrity of database systems.

Desirable

Experience with cloud-based database solutions or familiarity with other database technologies would be a plus. You are open to learning new tools and technologies that can enhance database reliability and performance. Your collaborative nature allows you to work effectively with internal customers to understand their challenges and anticipate future needs.

What you'll do

In this role, you will take ownership of the health and performance of all Oracle and PostgreSQL databases at SpaceX. You will partner with internal teams to identify challenges and communicate improvements effectively. Your responsibilities will include developing automation scripts to optimize routine tasks, ensuring that database operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will engineer, deploy, and maintain all aspects of database monitoring, providing insights into performance metrics and potential issues.

You will also be responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive backup and restore solutions, ensuring data integrity and availability. Your role will involve engineering and routinely testing disaster recovery strategies to safeguard against data loss. You will collaborate with other engineers and database administrators to enhance the overall database infrastructure and contribute to the continuous improvement of database reliability practices.
