About the Team

The Legal, Risk & Compliance (LRC) team at Airwallex is a collaborative group of legal professionals and risk management experts. We’re passionate about safeguarding Airwallex’s operations, fostering a culture of compliance and integrity, and ensuring we navigate the global financial landscape responsibly. The team provides expert guidance and proactive support across all areas of the business—identifying, mitigating, and managing legal and financial risks to enable sustainable growth.

What You'll Do

As the Senior Manager, Policy Governance & Issue Management, LRCO, you will be reporting to the Chief of Staff of LRC and will be part of a team of ex-top consultants focusing on enhancing and upgrading the division including strategy and processes. You will be responsible for developing and executing a best-in-class policy governance program across Risk, Regulatory Compliance, and Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) functions. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of policy management—including the process and the control of the of issuing, localization, renewal, decommissioning, and archiving— and that our policies are consistently implemented and monitored across global and local entities. You will also lead the identification, escalation, and remediation of issue management, and drive the procurement and optimization of governance tools, leveraging AI to enhance efficiency and compliance. This role offers the potential to build and lead a high-performing team, scaling the governance program company-wide.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the global policy governance program ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and Airwallex’s risk appetite

  • Embed the full policy lifecycle to ensure that all policies are drafted issued approved, renewed or decommissioned in accordance with our regulatory obligations and corporate governance standards

  • Procure and implement fit-for-purpose policy governance tools; optimize processes using AI and automation

  • Cross-functional collaboration with Risk, Regulatory Compliance, FCC, Legal and at a second stage Product, and Engineering to ensure policies are embedded in business processes and regulatory changes are tracked and implemented

  • Develop and manage robust issue management processes: identify, escalate and track issues raised by regulators, internal audit and other sources and ensure remediation is completed

  • Prepare and present reports to executive management on governance activities, audit outcomes, and risk assessments

  • Potential to lead and scale a team responsible for policy governance and issue management across the company

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Compliance, Law and Risk

  • At least 5 years of experience in a legal, risk or compliance role and 10 years of overall experience. Preferred candidates have experience in policy governance within the fintech, payments, or financial services industry

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing governance frameworks, policies, and procedures at a global or regional level

  • Familiarity with policy governance tools and AI-driven process optimization being ready to build this program based on newest and most efficient tools available

  • Hands-on mentality and a track record of driving execution in fast-paced, high-growth environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading teams and scaling governance or compliance programs

  • Experience with tool procurement, vendor management, and process automation

  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s, or relevant certification) is a plus

  • Consultant experience is a plus
