Job Description

Are you excited about using econometrics to make multi-million dollar decisions more science and data driven? Are you interested in supporting Consumer Hardware device concepts from innovative idea inception to launch? Do you want to work on an economics and data science team focused on tackling some of the hardest business questions within the Devices business at Amazon and then scaling those Statistics and Econometrics solutions via internal to Amazon tools? Then this could be the role for you!

The Decision Science team owns demand estimates and pricing recommendations of concept devices before customers know they exist. We support over 100 device-specific analyses a year on hardware and services ranging from Echo Frames to Kindle Paperwhite to Blink Video Camera subscriptions to the Amazon Smart Plug…all prior to launch. We are a cross-functional product team working to scale econometrics through Amazon and beyond by incorporating science into our internal tools.

In this role, you will support senior leadership decision meetings, approving confidential funding requests (PRFAQs) for brand new devices and services. You will influence build decisions prior to receiving any customer signal. You will leverage science and tools such as conjoint demand models and machine learning models to produce these recommendations. As part of the stakeholder-facing arm of the team, you will own relationships with decision makers to help improve the end-customer experience by making the decisions science-driven. In parallel, you will work with Scientists, Economists, and Product Managers to provide meaningful business solutions and increase the velocity, quality, and scope behind our recommendations.

Key job responsibilities
- Develop and implement advanced statistical and machine learning models for demand estimation and pricing optimization in the Amazon Devices ecosystem.
- Collaborate with science leadership to refine and execute long-term scientific roadmaps for the Device Economics team.
- Design and conduct conjoint analyses to inform decisions across multiple product categories.
- Apply forecasting techniques to predict market trends and product performance across various regions and sales channels (online and offline).
- Develop data augmentation methodologies to enhance the quality and quantity of available data for analysis.
- Analyze complex marketplace dynamics, including new product launches, marketplace expansions, and software improvements, to provide actionable insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate economic expertise and macroeconomic trends into scientific applications for internal use.
- Produce clear and concise reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
- Collaborate with other data scientists and analysts to ensure consistency and quality of analytical approaches across the team.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science, applied statistics, and machine learning, particularly in the context of consumer electronics.

About the team
The Device Economics team is at the forefront of demand estimation and pricing strategy for concept devices. We support a diverse range of devices and services, from Echo Frames to Kindle Paperwhite to Blink Video Camera subscriptions and beyond. As a cross-functional Product team, we are pioneering the scaling of econometrics throughout Amazon by integrating advanced scientific methodologies into internal tools and creating frameworks for broader adoption.- 3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience
- 2+ years of data scientist experience
- 3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment- Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language
- Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
