You have a basic understanding of tools and techniques used in the assembly and repair of structures, particularly in the aerospace sector. You are detail-oriented and capable of following technical drawings and instructions accurately. You understand the importance of safety and quality in all tasks you undertake.
Desirable
Experience with carbon fiber materials or similar composites is a plus. Familiarity with vacuum bagging techniques and assembly processes will help you excel in this role. Any prior experience in a technical or mechanical field will be beneficial, but not required. A willingness to work multiple shifts and adapt to changing schedules is essential.
What you'll do
As a Structures Technician (Fairings) at SpaceX, you will be responsible for modifying, repairing, assembling, and installing spacecraft and vehicle components. You will work with carbon fiber primary structures and sub-structures, ensuring they meet the required specifications. Your role will involve creating, monitoring, and troubleshooting various vacuum bagging applications to ensure the integrity of the components. You will align parts and secure them in place using clecos or tooling/hand clamps, and install fasteners in the correct sequence as per the drawings. You will select appropriate drill bits and tools for pilot and full-size holes, and perform tasks such as drilling, reaming, and countersinking to prepare parts for assembly.
You will also disassemble parts and deburr holes using various tools to ensure a smooth finish for fastener installation. Cleaning surfaces prior to sealing or assembly will be part of your responsibilities, as well as applying sealants, primers, and adhesives as needed. You will load and unload ovens to bond detail parts to assemblies, ensuring that all processes are conducted safely and efficiently. Your attention to detail will be crucial in maintaining the high standards expected at SpaceX.
