You have over 10 years of experience building large-scale distributed backend systems, demonstrating a strong technical background and a passion for creating exceptional user experiences. Your expertise in Java and API development spans at least 8 years, allowing you to design and implement high-performance solutions that drive business success. You thrive on solving complex challenges and have a proven track record of mentoring others, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances team performance.

Your deep understanding of fault-tolerant distributed systems and multi-region architectures equips you to handle the intricacies of modern software development. You are familiar with resiliency patterns such as circuit breaking and bulkheads, ensuring that the systems you build are robust and reliable. Additionally, your experience with containers and orchestration tools, along with Infrastructure as Code practices, positions you as a key architect in the development of scalable solutions.

You are committed to maintaining a clear reliability posture, implementing strategies for multi-region disaster recovery and reducing mean time to recovery (MTTR). Your ability to drive a platform roadmap aligned with security and product stakeholders showcases your strategic thinking and alignment with organizational goals.

Desirable

Experience with end-to-end live and video-on-demand (VOD) pipelines is a plus, as is familiarity with video protection mechanisms. Your knowledge of ingest, encoder/transcoder orchestration, and packaging/manifest generation will be beneficial in this role. You understand the importance of peak-event readiness and have strategies in place for scaling during high-demand situations, such as global broadcasts and all-hands meetings.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be a key architect in building the next generation of core software systems at Apple. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the platform roadmap, ensuring alignment with Apple Information Security and product stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include executing company-wide live events, maintaining service level agreements (SLAs), and implementing strategies for multi-region disaster recovery.

You will mentor team members, sharing your expertise in design rigor and documentation to enhance team velocity and performance. Your contributions will directly impact the reliability and scalability of internal streaming and media workflows, ensuring secure distribution and compliance with content classification and retention policies.

You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining fault-tolerant distributed systems, employing best practices for resiliency and performance. Your role will involve hands-on coding, system architecture design, and collaboration with other engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
