Staff Engineer, Financial Business Insights

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in engineering roles, particularly in data engineering or analytics, where you've developed a strong understanding of financial metrics and business performance. Your expertise in SQL and Python allows you to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively, ensuring data quality and integrity. You enjoy being a generalist, working across backend systems and data technologies to solve complex problems and deliver value to both internal and external users. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will interact with various stakeholders, including leadership and users, to convey insights and drive decisions. You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and growth within your team.

Experience with business intelligence tools and frameworks is a plus, as is familiarity with financial analysis and reporting processes. What you'll do

As a Staff Engineer on the Financial Business Insights team, you will lead technical projects that empower Stripe to understand its business performance deeply. You will oversee the development and maintenance of the Financial Data Warehouse (FDW) and other internal data products, ensuring they meet the needs of various business functions. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive operational automation and support the monthly financial close process. You will also be responsible for enabling Budget vs. Actual (BvA) analysis and facilitating board-level financial performance reporting. Your leadership will help ensure that the team delivers high-quality insights that inform key business decisions and strategies.
