Job Description

The Amazon Books team is seeking a System Development Engineerto revolutionize workflows through AI and LLM powered automation solutions. The ideal candidate will leverage artificial intelligence/large language models to transform manual processes into intelligent, automated systems. They will develop production applications and services that incorporate AI/LLM capabilities to enhance operational efficiency while ensuring a superior customer experience aligned with Amazon's business objectives. The role requires deep understanding of both traditional software development and modern AI technologies, along with the ability to identify opportunities where AI/LLM solutions can create significant business value. They should have strong empathy for Amazon's customers and business objectives, particularly those aspects relevant to the team and division , and be able to translate complex technical solutions into measurable business outcomes.

Key job responsibilities
• Design and develop end-to-end software solutions including scripts, workflows, and interactive dashboards, ensuring scalability and adherence to modern engineering best practices
• Partner with business teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications, while identifying opportunities for process optimization and automation
• Create and implement web-based applications with self-service capabilities, focusing on workflow management, quality auditing, and productivity tracking tools
• Develop and integrate automation solutions using custom software development, optimizing operations across multiple applications
• Lead technical design discussions and provide architectural guidance while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical strategy
• Ensure solution quality through proper documentation, testing procedures, and maintenance practices while collaborating with cross-functional teams
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating new technologies, recommending process enhancements, and implementing efficient automation workflow

About the team
The Katalyst-Tech team is a part of the Risk, Operations, Success, and Engagement (ROSE) organization. We provide Process automation, Application development, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) services to multiple partner teams (Books, Music, AWS ) with a skilled group of Application Engineers, RPA Developers, and System Development Engineers.
We have built and maintain over 150 bespoke applications, internal tools, and backend services used daily across Books Operations.- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis
- 2+ years of systems development experience- Experience scripting in one or more language (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby), or experience in software development
- Experience with REST web services, XML, JSON, or experience in software development
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- - Full stack application development expertise using Python/Java/Javascript
- - Experience building AI/LLM agents and integrating them with existing or new applications
- - Experience with AWS deployments using CDK or Cloudformation will be highly valued
