Job Description

About DataCamp

DataCamp's mission is to empower everyone with the data and AI skills essential for 21st-century success. By providing practical, engaging learning experiences, DataCamp equips learners and organizations of all sizes to harness the power of data and AI. As a trusted partner to over 17 million learners and 6,000+ companies, including 80% of the Fortune 1000, DataCamp is leading the charge in addressing the critical data and AI skills shortage.

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Developer Platforms team, the group dedicated to improving the developer experience and enabling every product engineering team at DataCamp to build, test, and ship with confidence. You’ll work closely with peers across the Platform Engineering group to define the “golden path” of development and remove friction from our workflows.

As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for guiding a team of engineers who focus on tooling, workflows, and infrastructure that streamline the developer experience. Your mission is to ensure that our product teams can focus on building and delivering features by providing them with reliable, efficient, and enjoyable development environments.

You will also help drive the technical roadmap for the Developer Platform while partnering with other platform teams to promote engineering excellence across the organization.

About you

At DataCamp, we value action, ownership, transparency, and a deep focus on learners. You’re someone who:

  • Has a strong technical background.
  • Is passionate about data education and wants to shape how the next generation of data scientists and data engineers learn.
  • Stays current with the latest trends, tools, and technologies.
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments.
  • Communicates clearly and can make complex ideas easy to understand.
  • Takes ownership and brings structure to ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Build, support, and develop a high-performing full-stack engineering team through hiring, coaching, and mentorship
  • Drive delivery of tools, workflows, and platform improvements that elevate the developer experience across the Engineering organization
  • Partner with Platform Engineering peers (e.g., Infrastructure) and product engineering teams to define and execute the Developer Platform roadmap
  • Lead technical decision-making around tooling, CI/CD, build systems, and development environments to ensure scalability, reliability, and ease of use
  • Lead initiatives end-to-end, from assessing developer pain points to building solutions and driving adoption across teams
  • Continuously measure and improve the effectiveness of our development workflows, feedback loops, and build times
  • Foster a culture of ownership, urgency, and accountability within the team
  • Contribute to the evolution of the engineering team culture, technical standards, and organizational processes
  • Encourage thoughtful use of AI tooling to boost productivity and quality

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing and growing engineering teams in an agile environment
  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, combining strong backend (Node.js) and frontend (React) x§skills with a background in platform, infrastructure, or developer productivity domains
  • Proven ability to deliver impactful tooling and platforms that improve the developer experience across multiple teams
  • A strong sense of urgency and ownership, with the ability to move fast, stay focused on impact, and drive projects forward with momentum
  • A pragmatic, value-oriented mindset with the ability to balance trade-offs and drive decisions
  • Strong technical foundation with solid knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code practices (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, AWS or equivalents)
  • Clear understanding of scalable system design, code quality, and software lifecycle best practices
  • Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development (e.g., Cursor, Claude) and a thoughtful approach to integrating these tools in the engineering workflow
  • Strong people and communication skills, with the ability to listen, build trust, and collaborate closely with engineering peers and stakeholders
