You'll work with Python and Java to streamline data curation and decision-making processes. This role requires significant experience in software engineering and data management.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in data-driven environments — you've successfully led projects from conception to deployment, ensuring high-quality software delivery. Your expertise in Python and Java allows you to build robust applications that handle complex data workflows effectively.
You possess a strong understanding of data engineering principles and have experience with machine learning frameworks — you know how to leverage data to drive insights and improve software performance. Your analytical mindset enables you to tackle ambiguous requirements and translate them into actionable plans.
You are comfortable working in a hybrid environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals — your communication skills help you articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, fostering a collaborative atmosphere.
You are passionate about autonomous vehicles and the impact of technology on mobility — your enthusiasm for innovation drives you to stay updated on industry trends and best practices. You thrive in environments that challenge you to think critically and creatively.
Experience with large-scale data platforms and evaluation methodologies is a plus — familiarity with autonomous driving technology or related fields will set you apart. You have a track record of mentoring junior engineers, helping them grow their skills and confidence in a supportive manner.
As a Staff Software Engineer at Waymo, you will lead a team focused on building data platforms that facilitate the evaluation of the Waymo Driver software — your role will involve defining long-term strategies and developing roadmaps that align with the company's mission. You will guide your team through the complexities of data set curation, sampling, and slicing, ensuring that the processes are efficient and effective.
You will collaborate closely with engineering managers and other stakeholders to execute projects that enhance the quality of the onboard software stack — your ability to navigate ambiguous requirements will be crucial as you drive initiatives from concept to implementation. You will also be responsible for establishing best practices in data management and evaluation, ensuring that your team adheres to high standards of quality and performance.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence the direction of the Planner Evaluation team, contributing to the development of innovative solutions that improve the Waymo Driver's capabilities — your insights will help shape the future of autonomous driving technology. You will also engage in hands-on coding, applying your technical skills to solve complex problems and optimize existing systems.
