At Docker, we make app development easier so developers can focus on what matters. Our remote-first team spans the globe, united by a passion for innovation and great developer experiences. With over 20 million monthly users and 20 billion image pulls, Docker is the #1 tool for building, sharing, and running apps—trusted by startups and Fortune 100s alike. We’re growing fast and just getting started. Come join us for a whale of a ride!

The Desktop & Core DX group is responsible for Docker Desktop along with the components that developers touch daily, including Compose, CLI, Engine, Testcontainers, and more.

In this role, you will manage the Coding Agent Sandboxes team, which builds secure, isolated execution environments that allow AI coding agents to run autonomously without compromising user systems or data.

This work is systems-heavy and safety-critical, with a strong emphasis on isolation boundaries, correctness, and failure modes. You will lead an established team of senior engineers and be accountable for the reliability and operational excellence of these environments in production.

Responsibilities

  • Align the team with business and product goals by working closely with product management.

  • Ensure predictable delivery and operational excellence of the components the teams ship.

  • Facilitate communication across teams and status reporting for critical projects.

  • Hire and retain talent.

  • Hold a high bar for engineering excellence.

Role Requirements

  • Must be currently located in the US: Eastern time zone.

  • 5+ years of experience directly managing high-performing engineering teams.

    • Additional 5+ years of professional experience as an IC software engineer.

  • Strong background in systems, infrastructure, or platform engineering.

  • Proven professional experience leading teams working on complex, safety-critical, or reliability-focused systems.

  • Ability to reason about isolation, security boundaries, and failure modes in production systems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a distributed, cross-time-zone environment.

What to Expect

First 30 Days

  • Understand the group and team missions.

  • Meet the team along with peers across the group and the company.

  • Start line managing reports and building a rapport.

  • High-level understanding of the existing Docker functionality.

  • Participate in status reporting.

  • Understanding of the Docker personas and how they apply to the team.

First 90 Days

  • Work with the team to align on goals and measures of success.

  • Start career discussions with reports.

  • Work with the teams to improve their processes.

  • Attend a customer call.

  • Oversee the delivery of a change or feature.

  • Started hiring for the team (if needed).

One Year Outlook (First Year)

  • Been involved in driving the long term direction of the team.

  • Have had a sustained, positive impact on reports.
