Lindblad Expeditions is seeking a Third Mate for the National Geographic Sea Lion and Sea Bird. In this role, you'll manage crew safety and assist with navigation and small boat operations. Experience in maritime operations is essential.

Who you are

You are a dedicated maritime professional with experience in vessel operations and safety management. You understand the importance of crew familiarization and participation in safety systems, ensuring that all team members are well-prepared for their roles. Your background includes knowledge of piloting and navigation, as well as a commitment to maintaining safety standards on board. You are also skilled in managing small boat operations and have a passion for expedition travel, eager to share unique experiences with guests.

Desirable

Experience with kayak maintenance and operations is a plus, as you will be responsible for the care and upkeep of all related gear. Familiarity with ISM Safety Management Systems will enhance your ability to contribute effectively to the team. A strong sense of adventure and a willingness to explore remote locations are essential traits for this role.

What you'll do

As the Third Mate, you will play a crucial role in managing the crew's safety and ensuring compliance with the ISM Safety Management System. You will assist with the vessel's piloting and navigation, working closely with the captain and other officers to ensure smooth operations. Your responsibilities will include overseeing small boat operations, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed during excursions. You will also be tasked with the care and maintenance of kayaks and related gear, ensuring they are in optimal condition for guest use. Your role will involve training and familiarizing crew members with safety procedures, fostering a culture of safety and preparedness on board.
