Overview

Google is seeking a Software Engineer III to work on the Cloud Key Management Service. You'll design and develop backend services with a focus on security and distributed systems. This role requires experience in C++, Go, and Python.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. With at least 2 years of experience in software development using C++, or 1 year with an advanced degree, you are well-versed in designing and developing backend services and distributed systems. Your experience includes working on security-focused infrastructure, ensuring that products are accessible and secure for users and enterprise use cases.

You possess a strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles, with fluency in Go and Python. Your familiarity with security and cryptography principles, such as PKI, encryption standards, and HSMs, sets you apart. Additionally, you have experience with cloud networking infrastructure and tools like Kubernetes (GKE) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.

Desirable

A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Cryptography, Mathematics, or related fields is preferred. You have a keen interest in developing technologies that ensure security and accessibility, and you are eager to contribute to the next generation of technologies that impact billions of users.

What you'll do

As a Software Engineer III at Google, you will work on critical projects related to the Cloud Key Management Service. Your responsibilities will include designing and developing backend services that are secure and efficient, contributing to existing documentation, and adapting content based on user feedback. You will triage product or system issues, debug, track, and resolve them by analyzing the sources of issues and their impact on cryptographic operations and service quality.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the technologies you develop meet the highest standards of security and performance. Your role will involve working on large-scale systems that handle massive amounts of data, and you will be expected to bring fresh ideas from various areas, including distributed computing and security.
