You are eager to learn SQL if you are not already fluent, as you understand its importance in data analysis and reporting. You are comfortable moving from tactical details to high-level strategic planning, ensuring that financial insights align with the company's growth objectives.

Experience in a tech or startup environment is a plus, as is familiarity with capital allocation and workforce planning. You have a knack for building dashboards that surface trade-offs and guide executive decisions, including P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet modeling. Your collaborative spirit allows you to work closely with cross-functional teams, particularly in Product and Engineering, to align financial strategies with business goals.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the FP&A function, owning company-wide planning, forecasting, and performance management. You will build and maintain financial models that support strategic initiatives and provide insights into headcount modeling and workforce planning across all functions. Your responsibilities will include driving monthly and quarterly variance analysis and performance reviews, ensuring that plans align with actual results across revenue, spend, and headcount.

You will collaborate with the executive team on hiring plans, trade-offs, and timing, ensuring that financial considerations are integrated into strategic decisions. Your work will influence how Descript evaluates investments and assesses the financial impact of pricing and monetization decisions. You will also be responsible for developing dashboards that provide clarity on financial performance and guide executive decision-making.
