Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Senior Propulsion Engineer for the M1D Refurbishment team to develop processes for the Merlin 1D engines. You'll work with fluid systems and manufacturing processes to ensure rapid launch capabilities. This role requires expertise in integration and testing.

Who you are

You have a strong background in propulsion engineering with a focus on integration, manufacturing, and testing processes. With at least 5 years of experience in the aerospace industry, you understand the complexities of engine refurbishment and the importance of maintaining high standards for flight readiness. Your expertise in fluid systems allows you to troubleshoot and resolve hardware anomalies effectively, ensuring that every engine meets rigorous performance criteria.

You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with interdisciplinary teams that include avionics, flight software, and structural analysis. Your proactive approach and accountability make you a valuable team member, as you are always willing to assist others and share your knowledge. You are comfortable taking ownership of specific engine subsystems or components, demonstrating your ability to manage complex projects from start to finish.

Your communication skills are top-notch, allowing you to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are detail-oriented, ensuring that all maintenance process specifications and master planning documents are meticulously crafted and adhered to. You are passionate about space exploration and are motivated by the mission of enabling human life on Mars.

Desirable

Experience with Merlin engines or similar propulsion systems is a plus. Familiarity with rapid launch cadences and the associated challenges will help you excel in this role. What you'll do

As a Senior Propulsion Engineer on the M1D Refurbishment team, you will be responsible for developing and refining integration, manufacturing, and testing processes for the Merlin 1D engines. Your role will involve driving continual improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency in future builds, ensuring that SpaceX maintains its rapid launch cadence.

You will lead efforts in hardware troubleshooting and anomaly resolution, working closely with other engineers to identify and implement solutions that uphold the highest standards of flight readiness. Your responsibilities will include conducting pre-operation system checkouts and post-operation data reviews, ensuring that every engine is thoroughly evaluated before and after flight.

You will also contribute to fleet configuration management, maintaining accurate records of engine specifications and performance metrics. Your ability to analyze data and draw actionable insights will be crucial in optimizing engine performance and reliability.
