CC++Linux

Overview

Waymo is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to architect and create high-performance custom silicon for autonomous vehicles. You'll collaborate with design and software teams to optimize hardware and software performance. This role requires expertise in C, C++, and Linux.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in hardware engineering with experience in designing and optimizing custom silicon solutions — your work has contributed to high-performance computing platforms in the automotive or technology sectors. You are proficient in C and C++, and you have a solid understanding of Linux environments, which allows you to effectively collaborate with software teams. Your curiosity drives you to explore innovative solutions that push the boundaries of performance, power, and latency in computing architectures.

You thrive in multidisciplinary teams and enjoy working closely with design and verification engineers to simulate silicon designs — your ability to communicate complex ideas clearly helps bridge the gap between hardware and software. You are passionate about autonomous driving technology and are motivated by the mission to improve mobility and safety on the roads. You understand the importance of collaboration and are eager to contribute to a team that values diverse perspectives and expertise.

Desirable

Experience with emulation platforms and system-level architecture design is a plus — you have a keen interest in the latest advancements in silicon technology and are always looking to enhance your skills. Familiarity with automotive computing systems or autonomous vehicle technologies will set you apart as a candidate. You are open to learning and adapting to new tools and methodologies that can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your work.

What you'll do

In this role, you will collaborate with the Design, Verification, and Software teams to simulate future silicon designs and software on an emulation platform — your contributions will be critical in ensuring that the Waymo Driver operates at peak performance. You will be responsible for architecting high-performance custom silicon that meets the demanding requirements of autonomous driving applications. Your work will involve developing system-level compute architectures that optimize performance, power consumption, and latency.

You will engage in cross-functional collaboration to ensure that hardware and software are designed and optimized together — this includes participating in design reviews and providing feedback on system integration. You will also be involved in testing and validating silicon designs, ensuring that they meet the rigorous standards required for autonomous vehicle operation. Your insights will help shape the future of Waymo's compute platform, making a direct impact on the safety and reliability of autonomous driving technology.

What we offer

Waymo provides a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan. You will have access to generous company benefits, including health and wellness programs, professional development opportunities, and a supportive work environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. We believe in fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, where every team member's contributions are valued and recognized. Join us in our mission to revolutionize transportation and make the roads safer for everyone.
