Amazon is hiring a Data Center Chief Engineer to oversee the infrastructure that powers global cloud computing. You'll ensure the efficiency of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. This role requires expertise in AWS and facility operations.
You have extensive experience in data center operations, particularly in managing electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems — your expertise ensures that all equipment operates at peak efficiency. You are a technical resource who collaborates effectively with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians and third-party vendors, serving as a focal point for facility operations within the data center.
Your background includes a strong understanding of preventative maintenance practices and emergency response protocols — you thrive in environments where you can apply your technical knowledge to solve complex problems. You are detail-oriented and committed to maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence, ensuring that the infrastructure supporting AWS is reliable and efficient.
You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to interact with diverse teams across AWS — your ability to convey technical information clearly is essential for successful collaboration. You are proactive in identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions that enhance operational performance.
Experience with cloud computing infrastructure and a deep understanding of AWS services would be advantageous — familiarity with industry best practices in data center management is a plus. You are adaptable and open to learning new technologies that can improve data center operations.
As the Data Center Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center — your role is critical in ensuring that these systems function seamlessly to support millions of customers worldwide. You will lead planned preventative maintenance activities and coordinate daily corrective work to address any issues that arise.
You will serve as the primary technical resource for onsite Engineering Operations Technicians, providing guidance and support as needed — your expertise will help them troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges effectively. In addition, you will collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure that all equipment is maintained according to industry standards and best practices.
Your responsibilities will also include developing and implementing emergency response plans to address potential incidents — you will ensure that the team is prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any emergencies that may occur. You will play a key role in maintaining the operational integrity of the data center, contributing to the overall success of AWS Infrastructure Services.
