Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, customer-focused Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) who is interested in guiding key business decisions for one of Amazon’s key business verticals, Books. We need your passion, innovative ideas, and creativity to help us continue to deliver on our ambitious goals.
The BIE will be a key member of the Kindle/Books team, which is working to make it easier for customers to find books they’ll love and assist them in selecting and buying the content they need.

They will coordinate across science and engineering teams and interact with product managers, economists, software engineers along with other BIEs.


This role requires an individual with excellent analytical abilities, knowledge of business intelligence solutions, as well as outstanding business acumen and the ability to work with quantitative, business and technical teams. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, and driven by a desire to innovate on behalf of customers.


The BIE will demonstrate high judgement and business experience, be able to identify and recommend data-driven solutions and collaborate with other team members to define the optimal metrics and reporting to measure business impact, and take ownership to drive delivery.


Responsibilities - Analyze and extract relevant information from large and complicated data sets of structured and unstructured data to identify insights to influence product road map.

- Design, develop and maintain scaled, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, dashboards, etc. that will support product teams across key growth initiatives.

- Collaborate with product and technical teams to consult, develop, and track KPI's, automated reporting/process solutions and data infrastructure improvements to meet team needs.

- Serve as liaison between the product and technical teams to achieve the goal of providing actionable insights to help instrument features, and adhoc investigations into future improvements. This will require data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.


- 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience writing complex SQL queries
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
