Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience specializing in the design and construction of mission-critical environments (e.g., data centers).
  • 5 years of experience in 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modeling and
    documentation (e.g., SolidWorks, Catia or Inventor).
  • Experience in structural and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) (e.g., ANSYS/FloTHERM/Nastran) alongside advanced tolerance analysis and loop methodologies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • 6 years of experience mechanical design.
  • Experience in the full life-cycle design, estimation, and commissioning of data center mechanical and modular systems, utilizing advanced tolerance analysis and loop methodologies for building-scale assemblies.
  • Understanding of international building codes, structural elements, and design principles for medium-scale production.
  • Ability to architect technical solutions through business case analysis and construction safety expertise, utilizing 3D CAD and structural/thermal analysis tools for system design.

You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.

With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

As a Data Center Mechanical Design Engineer at Google Cloud, you will play a pivotal role in transforming how hyperscale data centers are planned, designed, and built for customers. You will own the entire product design life cycle from initial requirements gathering and concept generation to detailed engineering analysis, verification testing, and manufacturing release. Tasked with developing systems, you will execute data-driven designs, create comprehensive test plans, and perform root-cause analysis to resolve technical issues.

Beyond technical execution, you will influence the future technology roadmap by identifying innovation opportunities and mitigating risks. As a technical leader, you will provide mentorship and coaching to foster professional growth within the team, ensuring Google Cloud continues to deliver the enterprise-grade infrastructure necessary for businesses to operate efficiently and adapt to the future.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $144,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
