Principal Software Engineer, Retail Foundations

You have extensive experience in software engineering, particularly in architecting and designing foundational frameworks and systems that enhance developer productivity. Your background includes a strong understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based infrastructure, enabling you to improve the software development lifecycle effectively. You are skilled in creating and maintaining runtime environments and have a deep knowledge of service discovery and API/RPC gateways. Your expertise in observability tools allows you to ensure that systems are monitored and optimized for performance and reliability.

What you'll do

As a Principal Software Engineer at Apple, you will lead the design and implementation of foundational frameworks and systems that support the Retail Engineering teams. You will define the long-term technical vision and strategy, ensuring that the frameworks you create are scalable and maintainable. Your role will involve architecting solutions that enhance developer productivity and streamline the software development lifecycle from code to production.

You will collaborate closely with other engineering teams to understand their needs and challenges, translating those into technical requirements and solutions. Your responsibilities will include developing, testing, and documenting the infrastructure and code for various foundational components, including DevOps tools, CI/CD processes, and runtime environments. You will also focus on improving service discovery mechanisms and API/RPC gateways to enhance system interoperability.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support as they grow in their roles. You will participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall technical direction of the team. Your insights will help shape the future of the Retail Engineering Foundations group, ensuring that Apple continues to deliver exceptional experiences to its customers.
