Senior Staff Backend Engineer (GOT/Picking)

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have faced the challenges of debugging complex distributed systems. Your deep expertise in Java and Spring allows you to ship high-throughput APIs that handle millions of requests, and you have strong opinions on service architecture, dependency injection, and testing strategies. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. You are passionate about e-commerce and understand the importance of creating seamless customer experiences. You are comfortable with agile methodologies and have experience in continuous integration and deployment practices. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys tackling challenges head-on and driving innovation within your team.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure would be a plus, as would familiarity with microservices architecture. Knowledge of database optimization techniques and experience with containerization tools like Docker can set you apart. You are also open to mentoring junior engineers and sharing your knowledge with the team.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing backend systems that support Coupang's mission to fulfill customer orders efficiently. You will collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to define system requirements and ensure that the backend architecture meets the needs of the business. You will participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to your peers while also learning from their insights. Your work will involve optimizing existing services for performance and scalability, ensuring that the systems can handle increasing loads as the company grows. You will also be involved in troubleshooting and resolving production issues, ensuring minimal downtime and a smooth customer experience. As part of the Global Ops Tech team, you will contribute to the innovation of the fulfillment process, leveraging your technical skills to enhance operational efficiency.
