Overview

Google is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer to work in their R&D lab, ensuring the reliability of cutting-edge hardware. You'll collaborate with design engineers and manage lab inventory while utilizing skills in Linux systems and network configuration.

Job Description

Who you are

You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field such as Optics or Sensors. With at least 1 year of experience in a hardware engineering lab environment, you are well-versed in Linux systems administration and network switch configuration. You have a strong background in debugging system and network connectivity issues, and you are skilled in implementing software through hardware programming and firmware updates. Your experience includes working with cross-functional teams on prototype hardware, where you have contributed to assembly, device programming, and firmware updates. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to multitask effectively while managing and organizing lab inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment. You maintain a clean and safe operating lab, ensuring that all components are well-organized.

Desirable

Preferred qualifications include RHCE or CCNA certification and 5 years of experience in an engineering laboratory environment. You have a proven track record of collaborating with teams on bring-up tasks for new labs and services, documenting lab configurations, and prioritizing project-related tasks.

What you'll do

As a Hardware Test Engineer at Google, you will play a crucial role in the Hardware Testing Engineering team, ensuring that Google's custom-designed machines meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. You will design test equipment for prototypes and develop protocols to scale these tests for the global team. Your collaboration with design engineers will be vital as you provide input on hardware designs to enhance performance and reliability. You will manage hardware components and materials for various projects, ensuring they are allocated according to project plans. Your responsibilities will also include working with teams to bring up new labs and services, where you will document configurations and prioritize tasks related to project bring-up. You will be responsible for maintaining an organized, clean, and safe operating lab, managing inventory of consumables and equipment effectively.
