Senior Software Engineer, Clickstream Data — App Store

Who you are

You have over 8 years of hands-on software engineering experience building large-scale data systems — you've designed and operated distributed systems that handle massive volumes of data with high reliability and low latency. Your strong programming skills in Java and Scala enable you to create efficient and scalable solutions that meet the demands of high-traffic applications.

You possess hands-on expertise with distributed data systems such as Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, and Flink — you understand the intricacies of data ingestion, processing, and storage, and you can optimize these systems for performance and cost-effectiveness. Your solid foundation in data storage technologies, including S3, HDFS, and Parquet, allows you to design effective data architectures that support analytics and machine learning applications.

You are familiar with SQL and can leverage it to query and manipulate data efficiently — your experience with lakehouse architectures enables you to integrate various data sources and provide actionable insights to stakeholders. You are committed to maintaining high standards for privacy and security in all your engineering practices.

What you'll do

As a Senior Software Engineer on the App Store Clickstream team, you will design and operate large-scale distributed systems that power the data backbone behind discovery, search, trust and safety, developer insights, and experimentation across billions of daily user interactions. You will be responsible for ingesting, modeling, and activating high-volume event data in near real-time, ensuring that the systems you build meet Apple's high standards for quality and excellence.

You will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to define requirements and translate them into technical specifications — your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders will be essential in driving alignment and ensuring successful project outcomes. You will also mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help them grow in their careers.

Your role will involve building production-grade Generative AI applications that make clickstream signals useful, safe, and actionable for teams across the App Store — you will leverage your experience with machine learning frameworks and tools to implement AI-driven features that enhance user engagement and satisfaction.
