Hopper is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to develop a public API for travel partners. You'll work with Scala and GCP services, collaborating closely with engineers and product managers. This role requires strong product thinking and backend development experience.
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that scale effectively. You take ownership of your work and are driven to deliver quality results quickly, understanding the balance between what needs to be perfect from the start and what can be iterated upon. Your experience includes working with public APIs, and you have a strong grasp of backend technologies, particularly Scala. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure alignment and high-quality outcomes.
You possess a natural drive to dive deep into unknown codebases, always keeping your focus on delivering results efficiently. Your product thinking is strong, and you anchor your conception of quality in customer experience. You are comfortable exploring engineering improvements and are proactive in suggesting enhancements to both the team and the product. Your ability to document and maintain systems is complemented by your experience in cross-functional collaboration, ensuring that you can work effectively with various teams.
Experience with GCP services is a plus, as is familiarity with frontend technologies like React and TypeScript. You are open to learning and adapting to new technologies as needed, and you appreciate the value of asynchronous decision-making in a remote work environment.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate a public API that enables Hopper's partners to create a world-class travel portal for their users. You will work autonomously while maintaining close collaboration with your fellow engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure that your work aligns with the overall goals of the company. Your day-to-day will involve exploring engineering improvements, contributing to the product's development, and providing best-in-class support for partners to scale their businesses effectively.
You will be responsible for maintaining high standards in your work, ensuring that the API you develop is robust and scalable. You will also engage in code reviews and contribute to the documentation of the systems you work on, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within the team. Your role will require you to balance technical excellence with a strong focus on customer needs, ensuring that the features you develop deliver real value to users.
Hopper offers a fully remote work environment, allowing you to work from anywhere in Brazil. You will be part of a dynamic team that emphasizes strong alignment and minimal meetings, promoting a culture of asynchronous decision-making. The company is backed by significant private capital and is positioned for continued growth in the travel ecommerce sector. You will have the opportunity to work on impactful projects that shape the future of travel technology, contributing to a platform that serves millions of users.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. At Hopper, we value diverse perspectives and are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve.
