Waymo is seeking a Software Engineer for their Marketplace Optimization team to implement and scale core economic engines for ride-hailing services. You'll work with technologies like Java and Python to optimize routing and pricing. This position requires experience in software development and algorithm design.
You have a strong background in software engineering with experience in building scalable systems — you've worked on projects that required you to design and implement algorithms for complex decision-making processes. Your proficiency in programming languages such as Java and Python allows you to tackle various technical challenges effectively.
You understand the importance of data in driving decisions — your experience with SQL enables you to manage and analyze large datasets, ensuring that your algorithms are informed by accurate and relevant information. You are comfortable working in a hybrid environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
You are passionate about optimizing systems for efficiency and user satisfaction — your previous roles have involved balancing supply and demand in dynamic environments, and you thrive on the challenge of improving processes to enhance service delivery. You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys tackling complex issues and finding innovative solutions.
Experience with autonomous systems or ride-hailing services would be a plus — you understand the unique challenges and opportunities in this space. Familiarity with machine learning concepts can help you contribute to the development of predictive models that enhance decision-making.
As a Software Engineer on the Marketplace Optimization team, you will implement and scale the core economic engine for Waymo's ride-hailing services — your work will directly impact how efficiently riders are matched with vehicles and how dynamic pricing is determined. You will collaborate closely with product managers and data scientists to design algorithms that optimize routing and balance supply and demand.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the software that powers these algorithms — this includes writing clean, efficient code and conducting thorough testing to ensure reliability and performance. You will also analyze system performance and make recommendations for improvements based on data-driven insights.
Your role will involve participating in code reviews and contributing to the overall architecture of the systems you work on — you will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and share your knowledge with the team. You will also stay updated on industry trends and best practices to ensure that Waymo remains at the forefront of technology in the autonomous driving space.
Waymo provides a competitive salary range of $170,000 to $216,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan — we believe in rewarding our employees for their contributions to our mission. You will also enjoy a comprehensive benefits program that supports your health and well-being.
You will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to making a positive impact on mobility and safety — our culture encourages collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. We value diversity and inclusion, and we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. Join us in our mission to transform transportation and improve lives.
