SpaceX is seeking a Propulsion Engineer for the Merlin Flight Operations team to ensure the flightworthiness of Merlin engine hardware and software. You'll be responsible for critical decisions during engine processing and support test and launch operations. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of propulsion systems.
You have a strong background in propulsion engineering, with experience in ensuring the reliability and performance of complex systems. You understand the intricacies of engine operation and are capable of making critical decisions that impact mission success. Your analytical skills enable you to review data effectively and drive improvements in engine processing and reliability. Experience with rocket propulsion systems or similar high-stakes engineering environments is a plus. Familiarity with testing protocols and operational requirements for aerospace applications will enhance your candidacy. As a Propulsion Engineer, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the Merlin engine and its operation, ensuring that all hardware and software meet stringent flightworthiness criteria. You will make critical decisions during the processing of Merlin engine hardware, overseeing its build, test, integration, and flight phases to guarantee 100% mission success. Your role will involve defining, implementing, and validating engine acceptance and operational requirements, promoting reliability and rapid reusability of engines. You will take primary responsibility for the success of Merlin engines during test or launch campaigns, providing live on-console support from mission control. Post-test and post-flight data reviews will be a key part of your responsibilities, allowing you to analyze performance and drive continuous improvement.
