Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building scalable production systems. You understand the intricacies of service design and deployment, and you have a track record of debugging complex issues in distributed systems. Your expertise in Java and Spring is deep — you've successfully shipped high-throughput APIs that handle significant user loads and have strong opinions on best practices in service architecture and testing strategies.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams including developers, designers, and data scientists. Your communication skills allow you to articulate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring everyone is aligned on project goals. You are passionate about user experience and understand how backend decisions impact the overall product.

You are proactive in your approach to problem-solving and enjoy taking ownership of your work. You have experience with REST APIs and understand the importance of creating efficient and maintainable code. You are also familiar with agile methodologies and have participated in sprint planning and retrospectives.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure would be a plus, as would familiarity with CI/CD practices. If you have worked in a SaaS environment before, that experience will help you adapt quickly to our fast-paced development cycles.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be a key contributor to the Varicent Incentives platform, a single-page web application designed to optimize revenue performance. You will develop and refine features that support client success, ensuring that our solutions are not only functional but also provide exceptional user experiences. You will collaborate with your team to design and implement scalable features that meet the needs of our diverse client base.

You will participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to your peers while also learning from their insights. Your role will involve writing clean, efficient code and maintaining high standards of quality throughout the development process. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise in production, ensuring minimal disruption to our users.

As part of a dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to influence the technical direction of the product. You will work closely with product managers to understand user requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
