PythonTensorFlowKerasMachine learning

Overview

Waymo is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to develop next-generation ML-powered prediction and planning systems for autonomous driving. You'll work with Python, TensorFlow, and Keras to enhance the performance of the Waymo Driver. This role requires expertise in machine learning techniques and problem-solving skills.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in machine learning and experience in developing predictive models — you've tackled complex real-world challenges and framed them as well-defined ML problems. Your expertise in Python and frameworks like TensorFlow and Keras allows you to build robust, generalizable models that can handle large datasets effectively.

You are familiar with deep learning techniques and understand how to apply them to enhance the capabilities of autonomous systems — your experience includes working with neural networks and optimizing their performance in real-time applications. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and improve existing systems.

You possess excellent analytical skills and can translate complex data into actionable insights — your ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is a key strength. You are passionate about leveraging technology to improve safety and efficiency in autonomous driving.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale data processing and simulation environments is a plus — you understand the importance of data quality and integrity in training machine learning models. Familiarity with autonomous driving technologies or related fields will give you an edge in this role.

What you'll do

As a Machine Learning Engineer at Waymo, you will develop and deploy state-of-the-art machine learning solutions that predict the future state of the world and plan the Waymo Driver’s behavior. You will work on enhancing the performance and capabilities of the ML driver, supporting the rapid scaling of Waymo’s business.

You will frame open-ended, real-world challenges as well-defined ML problems and research, develop, and apply cutting-edge ML techniques to solve them. Your work will directly contribute to the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles navigating complex environments.

You will collaborate with a team of talented engineers and researchers, participating in code reviews and sharing knowledge to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Your contributions will help shape the future of mobility and make a significant impact on the lives of millions.

What we offer

Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and equity incentive plan. You will also enjoy a generous benefits program designed to support your well-being and professional growth.

Join us in our mission to transform transportation and improve access to mobility while saving lives. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique perspective could be the key to our success.
