Motional is seeking a Senior Motion Planning Engineer to develop algorithms for autonomous vehicles. You'll work with C++ and robotics to create safe and intuitive motion planning solutions. This role requires 2+ years of experience in robotics and software development.
You have a Bachelor's degree, with a Master's or PhD preferred, in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. With over 2 years of research experience in robotics and motion planning, you have a proven impact and expertise in the autonomous vehicle field. Your background includes at least 2 years of C++ software development, where you've taken projects from problem formulation through implementation and deployment. You possess a thirst for knowledge and continuous innovation, always looking to improve your skills and contribute to the team.
As a Senior Motion Planning Engineer at Motional, you will apply your expertise in robotics and software development to create production-ready solutions for autonomous vehicles. Your responsibilities will include developing a variety of algorithms for motion planning, utilizing search-based methods, sampling-based methods, optimization-based methods, linear-temporal logic, and decision-making under uncertainty. You will integrate and evaluate combinations of motion planning and prediction algorithms, ensuring they work seamlessly together. Additionally, you will design and build a robust and scalable codebase that enables rapid exploration and evaluation of different motion planning approaches and algorithms.
You will interface with perception and prediction components upstream and trajectory optimization and tracking & control components downstream, ensuring a cohesive system. Participating in code reviews and mentoring sessions with senior team members will be part of your role, fostering a culture of product-focused engineering, research, and development. You will be expected to contribute to the team's success by sharing your insights and helping to guide less experienced engineers.
