Google is seeking a Data Center Facilities Technician to operate and support sophisticated data center systems. You'll work with HVAC, electrical engineering, and automation technologies. This role requires 5+ years of experience in a technical environment.
You have an Associate's degree or trade school certification in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. With at least 5 years of experience in controls and automation within an industrial or commercial environment, you are well-versed in the technical aspects of data center operations. Your background includes working in data centers, hospitals, power plants, or laboratories, and you possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades on data center systems.
You are knowledgeable about the design and operation of sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems. As a Facilities Technician, you are adept at operating, monitoring, and supporting physical facility conditions, ensuring that environmental and safety standards are consistently met. You have a proactive approach to identifying problems and making repairs quickly, especially in emergency situations or abnormal conditions.
Your experience includes inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various data center systems, including piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components. You advocate for best practices and develop creative approaches to reduce operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. Your ability to manage data center performance issues and outages minimizes recovery time from failures, showcasing your problem-solving skills.
Experience in startup, commissioning, and integration of new controls equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure is a plus. Familiarity with advanced monitoring and control systems will enhance your effectiveness in this role.
In this role, you will operate, monitor, and maintain data center facilities systems and equipment. You will be responsible for controlling, monitoring, logging, and setting alarms for various systems. Your duties will include managing heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, and electrical distribution.
You will conduct tours of systems to assess their working order and ensure that all systems are functioning optimally. Your role will require you to respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly to maintain operational efficiency.
As part of the Data Center team, you will collaborate with engineers and other technicians to support the startup and commissioning of new controls equipment. You will also be involved in the integration of these systems into the existing facilities infrastructure, ensuring seamless operation and minimal disruption.
Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and reliability of the data center operations, making you a key player in maintaining the high standards that Google is known for. You will be expected to develop and implement strategies that enhance operational performance while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
